Frequently Asked Questions
If I’m not in a formal leadership role right now, can I work with you?
A heart-felt yes! Leadership is not a position in the hierarchy. I believe leadership is courageously taking a stand for something you deeply care about. To me, anyone who is dedicated to their own growth, awakening and impact is a gift to this world.
What is Integral Coaching®, in plain language?
Integral Coaching draws upon the work of American philosopher Ken Wilber, who began synthesizing psychology, spirituality, social science, and the natural sciences with adult development in the 1980s. A central tenant of Integral Coaching is that human beings continue to grow and expand throughout lives. With this growth, we are capable to handle the increasingly complex moral, ethical, intellectual, and spiritual challenges of our times. For me, this is generative and hopeful.
However, new perspectives don’t translate into new skills. Most of us are on autopilot most of the time. While this can be comfortable, our blind spots are limiting. More than insight, you need embodiment. Integral Coaching offers deep insights on how we show up in the world, using a holistic map of adult development.
What are you reading these days? Who are you influenced by?
Currently I’m influenced by writers, philosophers and artists in post-activism, post-humanism, and emergence. Poets and mystics also loom large. On my bedside table, you’ll find Bayo Akomolafe, Rainer Maria Rilke, Sharon Salzburg, bell hooks and at least three books on Zen. Fellow thinkers, writers and creatives on my podcast influence my work, questions and approaches- especially on new ways of being and leading at this cultural moment.
How is it different from other leadership coaching?
In short, I’m a muscle builder. I help people (or teams) build new skills and capacities in many different areas: emotional intelligence, strategy, relationships, communication, being with uncertainty and creativity. Integral Coaching is deeply informed by adult development- the idea that we continue to grow, evolve and change throughout our adult lifetime. We learn new things, in many different realms- like being able to see and hold multiple perspectives, regulate our nervous systems, navigate complexity, let go of confining identities and work with our shadow sides. This takes more than insight or positive mantra-making.
Each program is customized based on each person’s unique map of human development. I leverage your strengths and creativity as the way to address areas of growth and stretch. No two programs are the same.
Where did you train and are you certified?
For two years, I trained with Laura Divine and Joanne Hunt at Integral Coaching Canada™ and became an Integral Master Coach™. It’s one of the world’s leading coaching schools and is accredited with the International Coaching Federation. Coaching schools vary in the number of hours necessary to complete. I chose to undertake the longest program and have Master level training hours.
My master coach training builds upon two decades of senior executive leadership in the public service and non-profit sector, a Master’s Degree in Human Geography, as well as a wide range of facilitation, mediation, organizational development, somatic and contemplative and meditation training.
Do you offer a sliding scale for your programs?
I offer a sliding scale for a select number of non-profit and BIPOC leaders for all coaching programs. If you are ready for coaching but need additional support please reach out to me directly or learn more here.
